Gnotes' old guitar died in Granada, but Juan Miguel Carmona (pictured above) put nylon strings to wooden body … and now Gnotes toca la guitarra. He still makes all these beats with the same old MPC.
Brand new official video for "Kill Em With The Beat" featuring Fashawn from Elemental Zazen's new album Nothing to Lose But Change.
“This might be my favorite track on the record,” explains Zazen. “Fashawn is one of the most naturally gifted emcees in the game. He’s blowing up right now, and with good reason. Joe Beats has always been one of my favorite producers, and this beat represents him at the top of his game. Make sure you listen to the end of the track… DJ Slipwax absolutely MURDERS the cuts.”
Congas in the backseat and guitars in the trunk, Gnotes drove south from Seattle last week and set-up-shop at the new Gnawledge studios in Boyle Heights, LA.
Our bienvenido al barrio party on Sunday at Ecléctica featured Gnotes, Daunte, Fabian and Reyes on percussion with Dj Canyon on decks. Much respect to Farah Sosa for the always amazing party photos.
Canyon played 2 new chicha remezclas at the party: Los Ribereños “Silbando (GRC Remix) and this Gnotes remix of "Mi Morena Rebelde" by Eusebio Y Su Banjo.
Both originals are featured on the fenomenal Barbes' compilation Roots of Chicha, and gets nalga love @ youtube.
"Chicha is an indigenous music that was spontaneously created by the culture clash of the '60s when the Indian population of the Peruvian Amazon discovered the Columbian pop music known as cumbia and American rock & roll. As cheap electric instruments became available, Amazon Indians put together dance bands that used the syncopated beat of cumbia — which sounds like a laid-back Latin cousin of ska — as the foundation for melodies that sound like Andean folk tunes, played on electric guitar with lots of effects and Tex-Mex style Farfisa." Gnawledge selector Canyon Cody will be DJing this Sunday March 13th in Boyle Heights for Ecléctica. And since we just moved into our new Gnawledge studios in East LA, this will be our welcome-to-the-neighborhood party.
Ecléctica is a monthly global baile hosted by Glen Redd (AfroFunké) and Reyes Rodriguez (Tropico de Nopal). Live percussion, delicious wine, sexy art and a crowd full of smiling dancers. Check out beautiful photos by Farah Sosa from the most recent Eclécticas: December, January and February.
Party is free! DJ Canyon plays Ecléctica @ Eastside Luv (1835 E. 1st St), one of the coolest venues in Los Angeles. He'll be bumpin dnb vallenato, boombap chicha, baroque cumbia, postelectric salsa, norteña dub … ya tu sabes
