Gotye's song "Somebody That I Used To Know" was LA radio station KCRW's Top Tune yesterday.  It's a beautiful track; haunting, heavy and heartbroken.  Gnotes gives the original some bounce in his remix, which comes alongside this b-side Florence and the Machine remix.

These remixes come as a detour follow-up to his Global Bassment mixtape to No String Attached EP, both from 2011.  These indie rock remixes show yet another side of Gnotes' prolific, diverse style. From Inthrumental to Rhymes and Beats, Gnotes has produced, rapped, performed and remixed everything from boombap to grunge.

Lately he's been hosting Gnawledge MyCypher in LA, a monthly hip-hop freestlye/jam-session … something like pick-up basketball for rappers, DJs and bboys (next Gnawledge cypher is Tuesday October 11th).

Gnotes continues to rock the cajón and flamenco guitar at Subsuelo,  the monthly global bass party in East LA featuring El Canyonazo, Gozar and DJ Ethos. 

His score for the upcoming flamenco documentary Kumpania, featuring Jose Tanaka & Antonio de Jerez, will be released along with the film in the new year.

And his sophomore rap record featuring Devin the Dude, Elemental Zazen, Mandeep Sethi, Jake One … coming soon.  But for now here's a Florence and the Machine remix he did this week.

Last summer, Gnawledge released Panama Doaba: The Funky Isthmus Mixtape to celebrate our 2010 summer tour, followed by Gnotes' Strings Attached, an instrumental EP of electronic flamenco grunge recorded in Seattle.

Gnotes will be performing in Boston next Monday July 25th alongside Afro DZ, Noni Kai, Mandeep Sethi, Brooklyn Shanti and DJ Canyon for the Gnawledge 7 Year Birthday Party at Beat Research hosted by Wayne & Wax and DJ Flack. 

And then 2 shows in New York City both on Thursday July 28th. From 6-10pm we'll be performing at Recess, an early evening international hip-hop show with WorldUp and MyCypher in the outdoor beer garden attached to Hostelling International in Harlem.  Then it's a late-night global bass baile with Dj Canyon in Brooklyn with the Cumba Mela crew at Bembe.

NYC rapper Brooklyn Shanti, aka the1shanti, sings in Bengali about the very first moment you see a beautiful woman, the vertigo of falling precipitously in love.  The youtube video features the dangerously beautiful Bollywood superstar Bipasha Basu, who was voted sexiest woman in Asia, twice. She recently saw the video & loved the song, posting it to her Facebook page, which has so far generated 411 likes and 78 comments .

The NYC rapper (formerly known as Nabin aka the1shanti) has been getting love from the Times of India and Desi Hits for "Rani Rani," which originally debuted on BBC Radio … and don't be surprised if you hear at an Indian wedding this summer

"Chicha is an indigenous music that was spontaneously created by the culture clash of the '60s when the Indian population of the Peruvian Amazon discovered the Columbian pop music known as cumbia and American rock & roll. As cheap electric instruments became available, Amazon Indians put together dance bands that used the syncopated beat of cumbia — which sounds like a laid-back Latin cousin of ska — as the foundation for melodies that sound like Andean folk tunes, played on electric guitar with lots of effects and Tex-Mex style Farfisa."
